What is The Totton Area Men’s shed?

We are part of the Totton & Eling Community Association and are able to use rooms in the Community Centre when they are available. We hold social and fundraising events such as concerts, car boot sales and ‘drop-ins’. We do not yet have our own ‘Shed’ and are therefore limited to events that are suitable for the rooms in the community centre.

We have been working hard to raise the money needed to build our shed. The Totton and Eling Town Council have provided a plot of land which we have now cleared and have laid down a base for the shed.

With help from various funds we hope to soon order the building that will be our ‘Shed’. The shed will be over 26 feet by 18 feet and will be a ‘log cabin’ construction.

Shed Members;

There are now many Totton Area Men’s Shed members who attend our events on a regular basis, but some chose to wait until the ‘shed’ is built. Regardless of this, friendships and support networks are developing for all members of the group.

We meet formally each month in the Totton and Eling Community Centre and informally at various other events.

Everyone, over 18 (both men and women), is welcome. Many of the “shedders” are men aged over 55 years, some of whom live alone and many have long term health conditions. This group of older men are often reluctant to join other local activities. Even without a ‘shed’ the Totton Area Men’s Shed has attracted the interest of over 80 local men, many of whom already take part in activities.

We expect this to increase substantially when the ‘shed’ is built!

The Totton Area Men’s Shed is very well supported by local councillors and local organisations such as Anytime Fitness Gym, the Co-op, ASDA Totton as well as local people.

We have a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/tottonareamensshed) on which events are posted.  Articles posted on our Facebook page often reach thousands of people.

Many local schools, social projects and other community groups are showing interest in being associated with the Totton Area Men’s Shed, as soon as it is built.

More Progress;

We are currently training a number of members to act as ‘key holders’ and are developing policies and procedures to ensure the safety and comfort of members.
